YukAfro Tours
Colombia
Preserving Afro and ancestral culture through rhythm and nature.
A collective from Colombia’s Caribbean coast protecting Afro and ancestral traditions through bullerengue, dance, and care for nature. YukAfro combines rhythm, ecology, and tourism to keep culture alive and create income for local families.
The Community
YukAfro Tours is a community-led initiative from Cristo Rey, a small Afro-descendant village between the mangroves and the Caribbean Sea. The group keeps alive the rhythm of bullerengue while leading environmental protection projects that restore mangroves and teach visitors about the link between culture and nature. Jesús Ávila represents the group in the School of Elevation.
Community Dream
Restore the mangroves, strengthen cacao production, and build eco-cultural tourism experiences that celebrate Afro identity while protecting the environment.
What we are co creating
A strong eco-cultural tourism model that combines bullerengue, food, and environmental protection. Visitors could learn, dance, and contribute to mangrove restoration while experiencing the real spirit of the Caribbean.
Obstacles
• Lack of structure for tourism permits and pricing
• Gaps in equipment and digital communication
• Need for systems to manage income and sustainability
Our Story Together
We loved this community! We stayed with families who welcomed us like relatives. Nights were filled with drums, voices, and laughter. We joined gatherings with elders, learned to dance bullerengue, and heard stories of the sea and the origins of their rhythm. We visited Jesús’s cacao farm, helped plant mangroves, and saw how culture and nature are deeply connected.

We don’t ask for donations. Instead, we collaborate with communities to co-create physical and digital products, from recipes to experiences, that you can buy, gift, or enjoy.
Every purchase fuels local learning, reinvests into community growth, and supports long-term self-sustainability.
