Who they are
Cristo Rey is an Afro-descendant coastal community alive with rhythm, laughter, and purpose. Nestled between the mangroves and the Caribbean Sea, its people protect their land and identity through bullerengue music, dance, and storytelling.
Led by Jesús Ávila, a young dancer and activist, and supported by mentor Cindy, the community is blending art, culture, and environmental protection into a model of sustainable tourism.
Their dream
To restore their mangroves, expand cacao production, and build eco-cultural tourism that celebrates their Afro-Colombian roots while protecting nature. They dream of welcoming travellers to learn, dance, and experience the soul of bullerengue.
