FUNAMOS
Colombia
Sport as a path to unity and opportunity
A community project in Ovejas, Sucre, using football as a bridge for social change. Led by Juanca and Mónica, FUNAMOS brings children and families together through sport, discipline, and community pride. Their goal is to build a sports and cultural centre that gives young people a safe space to play, learn, and grow.
The Community
FUNAMOS, Fundación Unamos las Manos, was created by Juanca and Mónica in Ovejas, Sucre. Juanca trains and mentors the kids. Mónica manages coordination and communication. Together they have built a space where sport is used to keep children away from violence and to teach teamwork, discipline, and respect. They transformed what used to be a rubbish dump into a football field, cleaned and built by hand with the help of local families. The space is not secure because the land belongs to someone else, and if sold, they would lose their training ground.
Community Dream
Buy a piece of land and build a sports and community centre with a proper pitch, classrooms, and simple cabins to host visiting groups. Their dream is to turn Ovejas into a national reference for sport-led education and youth development while improving local streets and facilities for everyone.
What we are co creating
A sports and cultural hub that connects football, education, and travel. A space to host youth camps, language exchanges, and community-led experiences that include sport, cooking, and culture. A model that sustains itself and creates long-term opportunity for local families.
Obstacles
• No permanent land or safe facilities
• Limited safeguarding and consent systems
• Need for funding and partnership structure
Our Story Together
We arrived late at night with nowhere to stay. Juanca welcomed us into his home. The next morning we joined football training with the children, followed by matches on the street. The energy was contagious. Families came out to watch and cheer. That evening we joined the local Gaita festival filled with music, dancing, and food. The experience reminded us how much hope lives in places like this.

We don’t ask for donations. Instead, we collaborate with communities to co-create physical and digital products, from recipes to experiences, that you can buy, gift, or enjoy.
Every purchase fuels local learning, reinvests into community growth, and supports long-term self-sustainability.
