Supporting Education in rural Ghana

The big Picture

One of the biggest challenges associated with poverty in Ghana is the lack of education in rural areas. Many children in these communities do not attend school, either because there are no schools nearby or because their families cannot afford the fees. This lack of education can perpetuate the cycle of poverty, as children who do not attend school are less likely to be able to secure well-paying jobs in the future.

The rural village of Ayensuako has undergone a transformation since the launch of Humanitas Charity's education program in 2014. The program consists of a pre, primary, and secondary school that supports 290 children. Additionally, the program has recently added a sewing room, a school kitchen, and a plot of land dedicated to growing food to feed the children.

The goal

The children at Humanitas School live in poverty. They arrive each day hungry and go home hungry. The school has built a kitchen but needs our help to recruit the cooks and pay for the ingredients to make the dinners. It costs just £60 a month to feed an entire class, that's just £2 a month to feed a child.

Our vision is to provide food for every child attending education in Ayensuako. There are currently 290 student, many of which only have one meal a day if they are lucky.

Food is fuel, Food is life.

How it works

We believe in transformation through the art of doing, therefore we have created an impact model that enables you to directly and personally make a difference in the lives of the community. We co-create the trip for a complete bespoke, personalised experience with you and the community at the heart. We donate £800 of your fee towards the funding or sustainability of the project.

At the core of our philosophy is the belief that everyone has something to share. We've established a cultural exchange experience that enables you to share your skills, passions, and knowledge with the community while learning from them in return. By showing up on an equal playing field, open to new learnings, and authentic connections, we can elevate our mindset and evolve. This transformational experience will leave an indelible impact on you, while also creating a lasting and meaningful impact in the community.

Partnership

We usually only work directly with the community, but in this occasion we have chosen to support Humanitas Charity. Why? Our founder worked with Humanitas for 12 years and has been part of creating the Education Matters project, the money we raise will go exactly where it is meant to... the community. Through this connection, we have formed strong bonds and share a belief in the positive impact that this project has on the remarkable community of Ayensuako.
